Sohmer Upright Restoration

Sohmer Upright

This quality American upright was made in the late 1800’s when it was originally Rosewood veneer. It was painted black early to mid 1900’s. Then in the 1950’s or thereabouts it was painted White. Then in about the 1980’s it was covered with a fake Oak grain finish.

We spent around 70 hours just to strip it back to bare veneer before French polishing it back to the original Rosewood.

We also did major work to the internals by removing the iron frame, repairing the cracked soundboard, re stringing with multiple tunings and a lot of action and key work. It is now ready for another 40+ years of enjoyment.
